Friends of the Chicago River – Lessons in an Urban River’s Recovery: Making Habitat
Thirty years of hard work pays off for the Chicago River. The river is now clean enough to begin to repopulate its fish species. Friends of the Chicago River and the Illinois Dept. of Natural Resources released 195,000 juvenile channel catfish into the Chicago and Calumet Rivers. Their success will serve as a model to other cities on how to turn an urban river into an environmental asset.
